Chicken Killer, but Baby Lover

I put Caro down for a nap in the rock n' play sleeper in our bedroom.  The bathroom is just across the hall, so I felt comfortable leaving her in there while I hopped in the shower (leaving the bathroom door open).

Cooper spends his days snoozing on the sofa in the living room so that he can spy on the neighborhood out our front window and bark his everloving head off at delivery persons, joggers, and dog walkers warn us of intruders.  Since we've relocated his sleeping arrangements to the living room, he rarely comes in our bedroom at all, as it's at the back of the house and he can't see out the window.

But when I got out of the shower, he was in our bedroom.  Watching the baby sleep.

(our sheets are in the wash--that's why the bed looks like that)
Our camera was sitting on the dresser, so after my heart melted at the sweetness, I took this snapshot, then told Cooper what a good boy he is.  Once he saw that I was in the room to get dressed, and therefore staying in the bedroom with the baby, he jumped off the bed and resumed his post on the living room sofa.

I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Here's looking at you, kid.

  4. For the record, that rock 'n play sleeper is, perhaps, the greatest single item for a newborn. Worth every penny.

  5. So sweet. And omg, seeing her in the RnP puts her size into perspective. She's so very very tiny, my goodness.

  8. Awwwww..that is so shweeeeetttt. Wish our feisty one behaves the same.
All his other traits match Cooper's though. Sitting by the window, barking/wagging/window scratching at dogs he wants to play with. Given that we live on the 3rd floor, I am amazed at his eyesight! He wags his tail or growls, depending on the dog that passes!

  9. Rock n' Play is a lifesaver isn't is?!? M sleeps in his every night because of his reflux issues. I dread the day he is too big for it! Caro looks so tiny in hers! We have tons of of pictures with our dog standing watch over M. It's pretty great to see them accepting these new members of the family! Love your pictures and can't believe it's been a month! How do we get time to slow down a bit?!?

  10. Love this. My dog sleeps under the crib anytime the baby is laying down. The pictures are adorable. Cooper is going to be a great protector.

  13. LOVE...so stickin cute!!! Thanks for your message earlier, once we get settled into our new place later this month and things aren't so crazy hopefully we can check out your friends church. I'm relieved to hear your response regarding them & their church, I was beginning to worry we wouldn't be able to find any place around here. Thank you! Lots of love to you:)

  15. Now these are the stories we dreamt we could tell, aren't they!? The last picture really does but Caro's size in perspective - she looks so much bigger in the chair by herself! But next to Cooper, she's such a darling pipsqueak! How much does she weigh now?!

And I'm in hound envy - our Ruby doesn't want to have anything to do with Catherine. Too old and set in her ways, which is sad for us as we'd so looked forward to similar stories as yours when we started this whole family-building thing 6 years ago. Ah well. I'll live vicariously through you in the dog-baby relations department. :)
